With 3 time Vezina Trophy Winner Mike"Tracker" Smith away , the club decided to give farmhand "Nancy" Drew Denischuk a chance to perform. Denischuk was solid in a 4-2 win over the Silver Seven, a game which saw Jeremy " Sauce" Gray lead all scorers with two.
Friday night in Minitonas marked the return of local legend Kevin "Still have the Hornet Sting" Kopecky. The former Mintonas Hornet scoring leader did not dissapoint the standing room only crowd . The game belonged to 5 time league all-star, Blaine " I miss my Habs", Campbell, whose impressive "Natural Hatty" opened the game. Kopecky and Campbell went on to register 4 snipes each, as CU recorded a 12-4 win over the Loggers.
With a 6 game winning streak on the line, the Kenville Flyers were the next worthy opponents. This game marked the first of 4 meetings between these teams. Current scouting reports revealed that if you shut down Flyer leading goal scorer Tyson "Top Shelve" Kinaschuk, you shut down the Flyers. CU defense was near flawless, starting with yet another solid performance by CU masked man Mike "Show me the Money" Smith. Not only did Smith shut down Kinaschuk, but he also held fleet footed Flyer Darren " Mac " Miller off the score sheet.

With Mother Nature not exactly cooperating, CU opened their title defence at the "Roblin Hounds Second Annual Hockey Tournament " with a convincing 9-4 win over the Roblin/Russell/Rossburn RCMP. After a tight checking opening period, CU broke open the flood gates in the second. Pat "Crusher" Morden, Jeremy "Jack and Cola" Gray, and Mark "Mini" Munro all bulged the twine twice. Munro garnished First Star accolades, finishing the game with 2 goals and 14 shots on net.
After opening the Tournament with a huge win, CU found themselves facing off against Gibert Plains. With a line-up peppered with former Roblin North Stars and Dauphin Kings, CU was going to have to bring their "A" game .The winner would advance to the "A" final, the loser would be relegated to the "Kiss your Sister" C final. Line-up changes saw the offensive duo of the Brothers Gray unable to play on Saturday, CU called on Kenville Flyer sniper Tyson "I don't need any sleep "Kinaschuk to help fill the void.

Wednesday evening saw Credit Union defeat the Valley Outlaws 8-3. With CU's all time record against the Outlaws being meager at best, Credit Union jumped out to a quick 3 goal lead, thanks to the soft hands of Jake "Sauce" Gray. Sensing an "Off Night" by 3 time league all-star Outlaw tender Andy "Butch" Hodgson, CU threw everything at the net.

Rounding out the scoring for CU were Swan Valley Stampeder Midget AA call ups Ryan "Ribs" Cable with 2 , and Riley "Grin" Morden with a single. The win was bittersweet for the organization as they will be without the services of El Presidente Blaine Campbell, who has an undisclosed lower body injury.

While awaiting to tee off on hole #16, Mr. Zamzow accidentally backed into a cactus that resulted in about 1,000 cactus needles in his ass, legs & heels. After many minutes of crying & bleeding while pulling out the needles, Craig was able to carry on with his game, albeit in a fair amount of pain. With his shorts full of needles, he proceeded to literally toss them into the garbage and play the final 3 holes in his briefs and bare feet. TPC staff believe that is truly the first time such a feat has ever been done, including the days when Tiger Woods was running roughshod over the legions of adoring female fans while stripping off clothing in an effort to get to the now famous '19th hole' that came to light years after the fact.
Despite his injuries, Mr. Zamzow was able to draw cheers from the crowd as he made the walk to the 18th green. Tournament officials were waiting on the green to lead him to the local authorities who very curious to find out what he deemed as appropriate public golf attire here in the fine state of Arizona!
A.P. stand out Ryan "Ribs" Cable lead all scorers with a pair, while singles went to Riley "Grin" Morden and Jeremy "Jack and Cola" Gray.

Making his CU debut, Geremy "Knockem Down" Newberry admirably filled in on the back-end for a vacationing Craig "Zdeno" Zamzow. Blocking shots, foiling "Three on Ones", Newberry looked more like a seasoned veteran than a glassy eyed rookie. A game which saw the lead see-saw back and forth, looked like it was going to slip away from CU, if not for the last minute heroics of Jeremy "J.D." Gray. Finding themselves down a goal in the dying minutes, the soft of hands of "J.D.", released a bullet along the ice that handcuffed Raider Goaltender Warren " Crease" Clark!

Face off woes continue for struggling center men Kevin " I think I'm gonna play the stick this time" Kopecky, as the unofficial stats had the cagey draw master going 2 for 12 in the circle. Help could be on the way, as team will be travelling to Roblin in a few weeks as defending champs in the Roblin Hounds Second Annual Fall Classic. President and 5 time league all-star Blaine "30 secs on then off" Campbell has been inquiring about the availability of former C.U. Face-Off specialist and current Roblin Hound Ryan "Cowboy" Keown. "Kopecky is struggling in every aspect, his confidence is down, I just think a few minutes with the Cowboy may help him ! " Kopecky who was unavailable for comment, was last seen at his son's Novice practice, working on his technique and looking for pointers.

It was a hard fought battle on the links , but when the dust cleared, Team "Rob's Sizzlin Young Guns", were just to much for "Jeff's Old Knights!" Finishing up in the clubhouse with a convincing 4 shot lead, McDonald accepted the the "CU" Jug on behalf of his elite eight member team. After a blistering -8 opening front nine by the pairings of Pat "Down the Middle" Morden, and Jarret " Heavy Hitter" Henderson, Team "Sizzlin" went out and played a near flawless combined round of even par on the back nine. Much discussion surrounding the Captains Picks was heavily debated at the 19th Hole. Team "Old Knight's", captain and one time caddie for legendary CPA golfer Jim Nelford, Jeff "Divot Digger" Knight relied heavily on the sibling pairings of Gray and Zamzow. Team "Sizzlin's " captain and 28 handicapper, Rob "I think I see the beer cart" McDonald favored a more diversified team that included the likes of Brian " Mulligan" Minish, Soup " Canned it" Campbell, and the Black Ace of the team Mike " Smooth as Silk" Smith. The festivities continued at team "Sizzlin's", where both team captains were awarded the illustrious "Golden Skate", a milestone piece of club hardware.
The Wild lost 4-1, but Genoway picked up an assist on Dany Heatley’s goal.
Genoway was also named 2nd Star in the contest.

The host Credit Union Oldtimers started out well, piling
up victories over the Birtle Old Puckers (4-1) and the Gladstone Old Duckers

Birtle and Gladstone opened on the red eye express, with Birtle Old Puckers squeaking out a 6-3 victory. Valley Outlaws had an "Old Time Hockey" rumble with the Winnipegosis Hawks. The Hawks, running their usual "Short Bench", found themselves band aiding up players to keep them off the IR list. The Outlaws took little time to take advantage of a battered and blue hawk squad, skating to a 11- 2 win.
CU registered an opening 4-1 win over the Birtle Old Puckers. Icing a full squad for the first time this year, the 16 plus skaters welcomed the 4 shifts per period. The Flin Flon Rock handed the Bowsman Burners their second loss to the tune of 11-1. Bowsman will be chasing that ever elusive "C"side final once again. After a quick carb reloading session, Kenville Flyers hit the ice a second time and handed the Flin Flon Bombers their first loss to the tune of 7-3. Action resumes early Saturday morning , when two southern sisters Birtle and Gladstone share an early 9:00 am cup of joe.
Ernie "The Glove" Pierrepont, blue paint specialist for the Mighty Bucks, held the high powered Valley Outlaws to 13 on an amazing 68 shots on goal. Running a very short bench, the Bucks managed to keep the game respectful, finishing on the back end of a 13 -5 loss.
CU signed free wheelin defense men "Jazzy" Jeff Bartel from the recently eliminated SwanValley Stampeders, to a one game contract to help neutralize some of the youth and speed of the Flyers. The flashy Dman did not disappoint, with his countless end to end rushes, finishing the game with 4 goals and a whopping plus 9.
Brian "The Thrill" Gilroy continues his scoring rampage. scoring yet another hattie , and adding four helpers. Centering wingers Rob "Blogmeister" McDonald, and Jeremy " Skates" Gray, the line finished the evening with six goals, and an impressive plus 8. Shaking things up in the second frame, Craig "Move over Mateika" Zamzow, was penciled in down the middle between back checking Randy Mateika and fore checking Mark "Mini" Munro. Finding little to no room on the oppositions blue line, the "Kerr" like middle man managed to bang in a couple.
Three time first team all-star Mike "Smitty" Smith found himself on his knees more than a $20 hooker in a 7/11 parking lot on a Friday night. At the mercy of the Flyer brother combination of Darren and Danny Miller, the "Double D" rang the cookie jar on several occasions.
With Gilroy and Zamzow going for a combined 5 for 30 in defensive zone face offs, former "Master of the Blade" and current director of player personnel, Dave "The Slasher" Bettesworth had these comments. "Going into the stretch drive, our center men have got to be better on the draw. We have been in contact with the Roblin Hounds regarding the availability of former CU draw master Ryan "Cowboy" Keown, and are anxiously waiting for a reply."
CU finishes out the regular season with a Sunday night tilt against cross town rivals Swan River Raiders, and then the season finale Wednesday evening when they host the Minitonas Loggers.
This loss marked the only time in Franchise history that CU was swept in a season series. CU sniper Brian "Thrilla" Gilroy was visible shaken by the lack of commitment on the part of some of his so called teammates. Wednesday night saw yet another classic game with cross town rivals Swan River Raiders. The Raiders once again came out flying, out shooting CU 25 -7 in the first frame. Mike "The Wall" Smith, back in the pipes , was absolutely outstanding, allowing CU to hold on to a 2-1 lead after 1. The CU back end trio of Warren "Wheels" Gray, Craig "Zdeno" Zamzow, and Darren "Mugsy" Mullin had their best game of the season. Holding the potent Raider shooters outside, and playing a near flawless transition game, both Gray and Zamzow added some timely goal scoring.

The TSN turning point of the game came mid way through the second, when in a span of 20 secs. Jeremy "Hands of Butter" Gray bulged the twine twice, putting the game out of reach. Playing together for the first time this season, the line of Gilroy, Knight and Gray, aka the GKG line, really turned up the heat in the second. Gray finished the game with two, while Brian "The Real Deal" Gilroy added a single.

Filling in for IR listed player Rob" McRibs" McDonald was "Battling " Brad Cox, on loan from the Mighty Bucks. "It was a real treat to finally have that #17 Jersey filled out, and catching a few passes for a change" 3 time All-Star Dman Craig " Zdeno" Zamzow commented post game. CU has the Mighty Bucks in their cross hairs when they meet Sunday night at the Corral.

The Outlaws came out flying, peppering CU goaltender extraordinaire Mike " Stretch " Smith with 26 plus shots in the first frame. Down 3-1 heading into the second period, CU mounted a comeback on goals by McDonald, J.Gray, and Eggie. The game saw the lead change hands several times, until the Outlaws scored the winning goal on a controversial play. CU rookie defense men Darren " Mugsy" Mullin, known throughout the league as an "Old School Clutch and Grabber", became a victim of his own specialty.
The recently reunited "MKG" line accounted for six of the twelve goals. Jeff "Knifty" Knight lead all scorers with three, while right winger Jeremy "OT Kid" Gray netted two, and Rob "Blogmeister" McDonald added a single.
Running a bit thin on the front end, Craig " Zinger" Zamzow filled in admirably for missing right winger Randy "Macho Man" Mateika. Zamzow, who has had less than impressive outings when playing the half wall, seemed to have mimicked Mateika's play to a T. Trolling the opposition blue line for the majority of the game, frustration finally came to head. Three time league MVP Blaine "Soup" Campbell thought three failed break away passes to the cherry pickin power forward was more than enough, took it upon himself to dangle the entire Flyer squad not once, but twice, before giving it away.
Right winger Mark " Saucing my Eggs" Munro, playing his first game in weeks, wired in two seeing eye dogs. The scoring drought continues for snake bitten rookie Clayton " I put this Sh*t on Everything " Mychalchuk. Looked off numerous times throughout the game, the big centermen's final crushing blow came post game, where Munro put the finishing touches on regaining the dubious title of the Eggonator!!
Parkland Ranger call up Nic " Smooth as Molasses" Schneider, coming off the IR list, welcomed the extra ice time and a chance to play in front of a hometown crowd. Schneider did not disappoint, making countless rushes, the fleet footed Ranger dented the twine twice. Playing partner, Darren "Mugsy" Mullin, hand his hands full with Flyer standout Darren "Dangle" Miller. Mullin. relying on "Old School" tactics made famous by standout CU alumnus Lorne "Hugs" Henklemen, had Miller wrapped up tighter than a soft Taco.
Recording his third 'Hat Trick " of the season in the teams previous 9- 6 win over the Mighty Bucks, the fleet footed forward kept his scoring streak alive by potting two against the Minitonas Loggers in a 10-4 victory. Still sporting the sun kissed skin and Hulk Hogan autographed work out attire, the flamboyant forward was quick to point out to his fellow teammates that he was plus 15 in the last two games. A true testament to his line-mates, who are often left to play short handed in their own end.
The emotional let down of losing in the "A Final" of their own tournament the previous weekend still weighed heavily on the minds of the young Kenville Flyers. McDonald, the unselfish/lack of goal scoring ability player that he is, was busy setting the plate for his line-mates, as they went plus 5 for the evening. The re-emergence of perennial goal scorer Kevin 'Special K" Kopecky, was definitely long overdue. The big power forward finally found his footing, and squeezed out his first hat trick this season, only his second since playing for the Minitonas Hornets of the now defunct SVIHL.

Facing former CU tender Darren " Make mine a Double" Fedorchuk, who filled in admirably for Butch Hodgson, CU made the most of their limited scoring chances. Fighting the dreaded "beach lungs and legs" syndrome, it was apparent CU sniper Jeremy "Jack and Cola" Gray's hands were spared. Potting two, the goal scoring phenom continues his torrid scoring pace. Out shot 2-1, Mike Smith was outstanding between the pipes. A last minute barrage by the Outlaws, pressing hard for the tie, had Smitty making no less than 3 game winning saves. CU's "Fantastic Four", defensive core, thwarted many an Outlaw rush, The game had it's fair share of physical play, as CU defense man Blaine "Crunch " Campbell let his "6'4 200 plus lb." presence be known all evening. Adding singles were Warren 'Wheels" Gray, "Pumper" Pat Morden, and Brian "Magic Man" Minish.
Immediately following a convincing 10-5 win over the Minitonas Loggers, a game that saw the return of vacationing forwards Jeremy "Cubra Libra Kid" Gray and Randy "Carved out of Bronze" Mateika , Garrett "Big Country" Watson was informed of the pending trade. Via satellite phone from a remote beach in the Panama, CU Director of Hockey Operations and General Manager Dave "The Slasher" Bettesworth told Watson that the youth movement was not working out. After shopping the strapping forward around, a deal was finally struck with the Ramsey Downholers of the ACGHL. Terms and conditions are still being finalized. CU hits the ice twice this week,Wednesday they host the Valley Outlaws, and then head down Hwy 83 to Benito for a clash with Kenville Flyers Thursday evening. The Flyers are coming off a 6-5 A side loss in their own tourney, and will no doubt be looking for some retribution.

Swan River Raider forward Wayne "Bullet" Bass scored with twenty seconds remaining in the game to give the Raiders a 4-3 win over the CU Oldtimers. The goal was particularly disheartening for CU goaltender Mike Smith, who single handily kept his club in the game. Being peppered with 60 plus shots, Smith made save after save, foiling the Raider's at every opportunity.
The game also marked the return of legendary CU sniper Brian "The Thrill" Gilroy. Still showing the effects of a "Lower Body" injury, the once dominant scoring machine struggled to find his game. Registering only 2 official shots on goal, Gilroy was held pointless for only the second time in his career. Frustration and confusion continue to dog CU's front end. Visibly missing the offensive explosiveness of forwards Warren Gray, Jeremy Gray, and Jeff Knight, the evening was very quiet for Raider tender Warren Clark.
Falling behind 3-0 early, defense-men Blaine Campbell, went end to end ala Serge Savard, putting CU on the board. Capitalizing on few scoring chances, forward Rob "Gloves" McDonald finished off a beautiful tic-tac-toe play to draw CU within one. Showing the leadership and poise of a young "Guy Lapointe", Campbell notched his second mid way through the period , evening the score. Fighting to clear the puck in the dying minutes, the Raider's smelling blood, finally snuck one by a sprawled out Smith.
Not donning the pads since his stellar winning performance in the CU Annual Christmas Classic, Fedorchuk was pressed into action when CU starting tender Micheal Smith was whisked away on a "Shopping Extravaganza" south of the border with his lovely wife. Fedorchuk, a lad of good Ukraine stock, had to put his Christmas Eve celebrations on hold to face a fired up Silver Seven squad.

Jumping out to a quick 2 goal lead, it looked as if CU was well on their way to chalking up another "W". However , the free wheelin Seven, lead by Dallas " The Reach" Anderson, quickly tied the score. The Silver pulled ahead by two and appeared to be running away with it, when Clayton Mychaluk wired a pass to a streaking Rob "Blogmeister" McDonald, who tipped it past a stunned Seven goaltender. The comeback was short lived when Silver forward Jordy "Cookie Jar" Stephan back door-ed two quick goals. Ice conditions may have been a factor in the performance of CU's "Beefy" backend, as the normally agile, puck moving trio , struggled to find their footing all evening.
Healthy scratch Kevin "Special K" Kopecky , has reassured the club that he will be making his way back into the lineup this week. One week of touring "The Happiest Place on Earth", has the power forward craving for some ice. It was also reported that both Jeremy "Jerk Chicken" Gray and Randy "Rum " Mateika are continuing with their strict dry-land training regime while on two weeks leave.
