CU win 5-3 over Minitonas Loggers...

A trip down highway #10 to Minitonas last Friday night to play the hometown Loggers had a shocking turn of events. Just minutes to puck drop, "Coach Keenan" announced that one defensive pairing would feature Mark Munro and Craig Zamzow. Apparently Keenan saw this as  a form of "marriage counselling" for the two that have been bickering for weeks.
The Loggers wasted no time scoring the opening goal only 13 seconds into the game as a shot was roofed over the shoulder of a stunned Mike Smith, while the  defensive pairing of Morden/Mullin did their best pylon impressions.
Power forward turned goal scorer Chris "John Deere" Zamzow,  dipsy doodled thru the Logger defence to even the score midway thru the first 40 minute first period.

On a feed from Wade Cable, Jeff Knight continued his hot streak and gave CU the lead, being the only guy to beat red hot Logger goaltender Joey "Bats" Moshenko's glove hand this month. Barry Eggie added a snipe with 12 seconds left to give CU a 3-1 lead heading into intermission. Early in the second Zamzow potted his second of the night, giving CU a three goal lead .
CU peppered Logger tender Moshenko to the tune of 72 shots on the night. Moshenko's performance rivaled that of  Czech netminder Petr Mrazek who stoned Team USA in Edmonton earlier in the evening.
Post-game Riley "-1" Morden (partnered on d with pinching Darren Mullin) was quick to mock the new Munro/Zamzow pairing, claiming only Smitty rescued them from a minus performance. However a quick check of the official game summary didn't seem to support his "story" as the pairing clocked in at a solid +3 until a goal at garbage time.
Rookie scoring sensation Clayton Mychalchuk was nearly a last minute scratch when word spread that the usual post-game wings would not be available. This devastating news may have directly affected the rookies outing as he was  mysteriously held off the scoring sheet.
CU added Jeff Knight and Darren Mullin to the  IR list.  Knight took a helmet to the nose and  was cut for 6, while "Muggsy" was headed home to Angela to sign up for the Dec 31 "Ice and Aspirin Club" as he nursed a sore leg after receiving a two-handed chop from a Logger forward. Seems the forward didn't take kindly to Mullin hooking him around the elbow (or was it neck?) on a partial break.

The club will  have time off to work on New Year's celebrations until they hit the ice twice this week. Wednesday they will host the Mighty Bucks following the Stampeder/Wolverine matchup, then  Friday the club is scheduled to make it's first trip of the season to the Bowsman Slush Pond to visit John Pasternak and the hometown Silver Seven.
