Holtom traded to the Jets!!!!

Esteemed alumni Dave "Dr. Hook" Bettesworth and current star Brian "Scoop" Gilroy have taken the glass "half-full" approach.  Dr. Hook expects death threats in the Swan Valley should drop by 50% in 2012 with Holtom gone, and Gil advises he should make most games this year as he can skip the treadmill commitment, as he tried to slim down to dodge incoming bullets, intended for his editor. On a more serious note, Derek will be missed.  I expect we will now be down to 4 skaters and a goalie for those Tuesday nights games in Bowsman vs the Outlaws.(submitted by Craig Ludwig)

On behalf of the entire C.U. Oldtimer's Hockey club I would like to wish Derek and his entire family all the best and don't forget there will always be a stall in the dressing room with your name on it.

Championship Sunday Results...

Championship Sunday opened with the "C" final pitting Valley Incorporated against the Mighty Bucks. Valley Incorporated proved to be too much for the Bucks to handle and skated to a 4-1 victory.

The "B" final saw the host team  ungraciously hand Winnipegosis Hawks a trimming to the tune of 8-2 to capture the hardware. In fairness to the Hawks, who always come with  six skaters and a goaltender, may in fact hold all tournament records for "most beverages consumed," and " least amount of shut eye in 72 hours!",  played as solid a 60 minutes as could be expected.

The "A "  final had the three time reigning champions Valley Outlaws doing battle with the Kenville 'Select" Flyers. In a highly entertaining game , which saw end to end action, the Flyers dethroned the champs and skated to a 5-0 victory.

Presidential Coup Thwarted...

Future President of the Chamber of Commerce !

Championship Sunday and the hosts were set to face their cross-town rival Raiders in one B Semi Final with a 10AM start time.  One major problem was evident, the stall of 7-time dman of the year Blaine "El Presidente" was vacant, Campbell was nowhere to be found.
The club took the ice with an extremely short bench as Warren "Wheels" Gray showed his allegiance by electing to curl in the 4th Event quarterfinal instead of in what potentially was Credit Union's last game of the season.
Just prior to puck drop Campbell sauntered in with eyes reminiscent of two pissholes in a snowbank.  After stumbling through a couple shifts late in the first period the President "pulled the chute" and resigned himself to head coach for the balance.
Gray returned for the second period, to provide fresh legs.
At the final buzzer the scoreboard showed a nail biting 3-2 score in Credit Union's favor despite a missed open net by all-world sniper Jeremy Gray (obviously shaken by his older brother's lack of commitment).
Kudos to Fudd for shutting the door, with a little help from his friends the posts.
The President was sent home for a nap prior the the B Final, while the balance of the Club held a non-confidence vote.
Credit Union is now set to face off against the Winnipegosis Hawks for B Side glory.

This is what getting home at 8AM looks like!

Friday Night in the O.K. Corral....

Still reeling from being relegated to the "B" side, CU resorted to what they do best... Parrrtttying!!!!  After a subdued 5 minutes of silence, club president and stall worth defense man Blaine " Jello Shooter" Campbell broke down and brought out the shooter cooler.

El Presidente cheering up the Boys!

After some encouraging words from our fearless leader, it was time to honour the passing of the infamous "40" stick  to Craig "Zdeno" Zamzow.

Continuing on as Good Will Ambassador for the organization, El Presidente took it upon himself to make sure that everyone was having as much fun as possible. With the assistance of Jeremy " Master of the Funnel" Gray, Goodwill and cheer was passed on to members of Valley Inc. and Birtle Old Puckers!

SVCU Take One On the Chin... 7-3

Thoughts of the redemption  "Dream Match "  in the "A" Final were all but snuffed out when CU fell victim to the Kenville ( Southern Manitoba) Flyer Selects. After jumping out to a commanding 3 goal lead, SVCU ran into penalty trouble allowing Kenville to even the match before the period was out. Kenville opened the second period by with two quick goals courtesy of a power play, and never looked back. Failing to execute on a 5-3 power play, CU scoring woes continue. It is now a waiting game to see who they face in the "B" side semi-final Sunday morning. If all things fall into place, it could be a classic match up with cross town rivals Swan River Raiders. Should be a gooder!!!

Bud Light "Game Star"

Outlaws, C.U. Draw First Blood...

Last years finalists opened the 36th Annual Spring Tourney with explosive offensive displays.  Reigning champions Valley Outlaws kicked off the tourney with an impressive 11-1 win over the Bowsmen Burners.  SVCU blew open a tight checking game with six unanswered goals in the second en route to a 9-1 butchering of the Mighty Bucks. Leading all scorers with a pair each were Warren "Wheels Gray" and Jeff  "Nifty" Knight. Rumor turned to truth when Mike "Six Goal " Smitty took to the ice for the pre-game warm up. Getting the green light mere hours before from team physiotherapist and ironically the wife of Mighty Buck defense men Mark "Phil" Russell, Smitty took a shot of cortisone, braced the bad boy up, and played a hard 40 minutes. Having one of his best outings since switch to  Bud Light, CU keeper of the crease Darren " I'll have four for my warm up" Fedorchuk was stellar between the pipes. Minutes away from recording his first shut out for the Rouge, Blanc and Gris, Mighty Buck "D" man and former Swan Valley Stampeder "Pinching" Perry Church wired a wrister short side on the PP. Next up, the Kenville (Maintoba) " Flyers Friday 8:00 pm.
