SVCU lose in last minute....

SVCU played a picture perfect "Defensive Game" to skate away with a 4-2 hard fought victory over the Swan River Raiders Sunday evening. This was the club's first game in the dreaded "Four Games in Six Nights" mid - winter conditioning Marathon. Wade "Booster" Cable opened up the scoring with a top corner glove side snipe. He scored his second of the evening on a  nifty re-direct . Kevin "Special K" Kopecky  added to the lead with an impressive wrap around that had both benches shaking their heads in disbelief. With the Raiders pressing hard late in the game, Craig "Zdeno" Zamzow salted the victory with a "Seeing eye Dog" wrister that handcuffed Raider net minder Warren "Stand Up" Clark.

Booster warming up the shot!!
On Tuesday night, the SVCU Old timers headed north on Hwy #10 to face their familiar foes the Valley Outlaws.  Suffering from the schedules of wannabe curlers and the broken commitments of some roster and non-roster players, 7 skaters showed the heart of lions as they built a 2-1 lead on goals by the father/son duo of  Pat and Riley Morden (that makes everyone forget about Gordie and Mark Howe) .
The second half  had SVCU fans forgetting all about Evan "Manboy" Morden as the  father/son Morden duo combined for two more goals to extend the lead to 4-1.

Pat "Crusher" Morden.
The deep bench and continual end to end rushes of Outlaw vets Wade Davy and Kevin Betcher, combined with the relentless young legs of Darcy Riddell and Dave Kirk, the Outlaws staged a comeback to tie the game with 4 minutes to play.
In what can only be described as more painful than the Team Canada collapse vs Russia and as stinging as the Steve Smith "own goal" in 1986, CU defence man Craig "Stone hands" Zamzow mishandled an Outlaw dump-in, turning the puck over  into the slot where Outlaw patriarch Archie" Hands of Gold" Riddell went cookie jar on a surprised and stunned Mike Smith.
After a valiant effort, a demoralized squad lingered in the dressing room until late into the night deliberating over Zamzow's punishment.  Following a 7-1 vote the decision was made to make Zamzow walk to Swan River from Barry's Berries strawberry patch, a one-game suspension without pay to be served when SVCU hosts the Mighty Bucks, and no chicken wings following Friday's games vs the Loggers.(this may be negotiable).
There were also rumors that Zamzow was very fortunate that the January 10 trade deadline passed yesterday or club tender and VP Mike "Smitty" Smith was ready to pull the trigger on helping SVCU re-acquire alumnus Walter Lepholtz in a one for one swap and an undisclosed amount of cash. The trade hit a snag when club Director of Player Personnel and former SVCU penalty minute leader Dave "The Carver" Bettesworth , was unable to finalize the deal by midnight..
It was  also reported that SVCU put Zamzow on "24 Hour Suicide Watch", and visited his home to remove all heavy rope and any books providing how-to manuals for noose's and sailor knots as Zdeno is well known for his knot tying and general mechanical skills.

A dejected Craig "Zdneo" Zamzow!
Cheer up Zdeno, you are in good company!
